Education initiatives

  • The ECOSITE Agroecological Training Center was founded by Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge and Perurail in 1999. Groups of approximately 10 students ages 18-25 from various communities in Cusco spend one month at Ecosite to learn organic farming practices so they may have more variety and better products to sell to local hotels and restaurants.
  • With the aim of contributing to the education and development of Cusco children, Hotel Monasterio, in partnership with Apoyo Institute, sponsors since March 2011 the program “Mathematics for all” in the communities of Huama and Chumpe, where math is taught with illustrative books which are given without cost to parents or schools.

  • Communities in Cusco offer Experiential tourism programs where they host travelers who want to experience life in an Andean community and invite them to stay in their homes, learn to cook typical recipes and help with daily chores. This helps the families increase their income and share their indigenous culture with great pride.
  • Our hotels offer training to community members in F&B, Housekeeping, Gardening, Guest relations and leadership skills so they may offer their guests the best possible experience.
  • NAZ and TO Lima Tours are helping 30 families in the community of Huilloc, near Ollantaytambo.
  •  MON and TO Condor Travel work with 18 families in the community of Misminay, near Maras.

This year, a total 198 students in 1st – 4th grade will benefit from Hotel Monasterio’s math program
